What is Reiki?
While many have heard of Reiki, the question remains; what is Reiki? Well, by definition, “Rei” is translated as Spirit and “Ki” means life force. So, as a basic definition, Reiki is usually translated as Universal Life Force Energy or Life Force Energy of/from Spirit.
Now, to go a little deeper, you will find various definitions and descriptions of what Reiki is and is not. The reason is because Reiki works with us and through us on various and individual levels. Whether you experience Reiki as a client, or are channeling Reiki as a Practitioner, Reiki will flow in the highest and best way for you. While it is powerful, Reiki is gentle and loving energy, which is often felt by recipients.
As all things in existence, we are energetic beings. Naturally, we channel and exchange energies without knowingness or conscious intent. We are giving and receiving energetic vibrations, constantly. And this process of energetic flow impacts our environment, internally and externally. Understanding the chakras allows us to gain deeper understanding of our individual energetic vibrations, as well as how to manage our energetic flow. But with Reiki, we allow the flow of Universal Life Force Energy to balance these energies for us, restoring balance of our mind-body wellbeing.
How Does Reiki Work?
Through the practice of Reiki, Practitioners learn to channel Universal Life Force Energy, acting as a conduit. Reiki then flows through the Practitioner, to the client, balancing and restoring energetic harmony within. As a result of creating harmonious balance, Reiki is known to alleviate physical and emotional pain, promote inner-peace and relaxation.
The Reiki Practitioner needs to do nothing more than allow, and the client needs to do nothing more than receive. Of course Reiki Practitioners are trained in various techniques, specific to Reiki, but there is no way to do it wrong. Reiki energies will flow as needed for the recipient. Again, Reiki Practitioners are conduits, allowing energies to flow, but Reiki “knows” what to do.
Reiki Level Two Practitioners learn to perform Reiki sessions from a distance, void of physical contact with recipients. How do Distant Reiki Sessions work? Well, you will learn the details in Reiki Level Two training, including use of Reiki symbols, but it is no secret that energy is boundless.
Can Anyone Learn Reiki?
Yes! Reiki training includes a series of attunements, which is a sacred process, allowing us to open energetic channels and attune with Universal Life Force Energy. As I said above, we are already channeling energies, as we are energetic beings. The Reiki attunements allow us to channel higher frequencies of ki (life force energy).
In Reiki Level One training, you will learn the history of Reiki and receive level one attunements and training. Reiki Level One teaches you to use Reiki with focus on the physical level (touch/hands on). In Reiki Level Two training you become attuned to Reiki symbols, and you will learn how to use Reiki with focus on emotional/mental levels and distant sessions.
I teach all levels of Usui/Tibetan Reiki and Karuna Reiki®. There is no prerequisite for Usui/Tibetan Reiki, level one. While some Reiki Master-Teachers will train children, my classes are for adults, 18 and up. Classes are ongoing, and private classes are available upon request. Please visit the Workshops page for more information or the Calendar for class dates and times. For more information on the history or Reiki, visit the FYI page.
