Welcome to Wisdom Wednesday! Earlier this week we discussed satisfaction, specific to finding it within ourselves. Today’s discussion remains in the realm of satisfaction, as we explore our relationship with vanity.
Let’s start by asking ourselves this question, “Do I want more?” If you answered yes, what more do you want? Even when we have exactly what we need, and are fortunate enough to have some of what we want, there is still a possibility of feeling lack. The goal tends to be the combination of both, having all needs and wants met…we want to have it all! While this is not impossible, there is usually a lack of recognition when all is had. This is when we feel dissatisfied and are constantly chasing after more. When the search for satisfaction is external, are we ever truly satisfied?
In our society, it seems bigger is better…the one with the most wins! We have created a passive-aggressive competition with endless one-uppers. The opportunity to “upgrade” is given with everything: food, cars, homes, gadgets, our appearances, etc. How can we find satisfaction when constantly tempted with “better” versions of what we already have?
Gratitude. One of the most valuable gifts we can give ourselves is acknowledgement of what we already have. Wanting more is okay, but appreciation of what you already have is invaluable, as well as satisfying.
Asking for more in an abundant situation is wasteful. This week, take note of what you want more of, or a better version of…then ask yourself why and if it will give you satisfaction. What void are you trying to fill, and is this truly the way to fill it? Then, keep note of what you are thankful for each day. As you realize how abundant you are, your energy may shift, as well as your wants.
Until next time…
Peace and Blessings!
