“I didn’t get here on purpose, but there’s purpose in me being here” – Yolanda
Welcome to Meditation Monday! This week's meditation is finding the purpose and lesson in every circumstance. Countless situations leave us wondering, “Why is this happening to me?”, or “What did I do to deserve this?” Sometimes these situations have obvious benefits, while some instances leave us scratching our heads, wondering where the hidden cameras are. Whether the circumstance is pleasant or not, there is a lesson embedded beneath the surface. There is always a purpose. It may be cliché, but there is truly a reason for everything. The challenge, often times, is removing our emotions and observing the situation from a neutral stance, or remaining impartial. The key is to pause before reacting or responding. Allow yourself a moment to ease into your breath. Once you feel calm settle throughout your body, make a conscious decision to review what you’ve ingested from a place of neutrality. *For tips on how to create this space for yourself, sign up for my newsletter and receive Five Ways to Create Calming Space and Alleviate Stress, FREE! From this stance, you can digest the situation from all sides. Even more, this is where you will be able to see the lesson. Recognizing and/or understanding the purpose may change your perspective, making a seemingly unfair or tough situation transform into an opportunity for growth. This transformation of your energy in the situation will also allow you an opportunity to be grateful for the experience. Gratitude invites loving energy, while blame and self-pity create energetic chaos. An added benefit will be that you have given yourself space to respond, rather than react. When stuck in our emotions, we often react in a manner that will leave us in regret, soon after. Reaction can even cause us to miss the lesson all together, leaving us open to having to face the same lesson again. Why bother? We can do ourselves a favor, sucking it up and recognizing the lesson, responding in the highest and best way for all persons involved. The ultimate purpose is always growth.
